Have some fun with Siri

This one is for all the Apple users out there, we're going to have a bit of fun with Siri.

Siri is your personal assistant on your iPhone, iPad or even on your Mac. Many of us already use it to tell us the weather, or the score of the Leafs game (.. oh right), but Siri can do a lot more for us. Depending on your settings and your device you will access Siri in a slightly different way.

Here's how to activate Siri:
  • If you have a newer iPhone, press and hold the button on the right side of your phone until the Siri prompt appears (squiggly line).
  • If you have an iPad or an older iPhone, press and hold the home button on the bottom (face) of your iPad; again, until the squiggly line appears.
  • If you have a Mac you should see the Siri icon on the top menu, click it to activate.
  • Or... depending on your settings you may be able to activate Siri simply by saying "Hey Siri" while near your device.

Once you have activated Siri you can explore a bit... here are a few things to ask:
  • What time is it?
  • What time is it in Singapore? (or wherever)
  • What's the weather forecast for tomorrow in Burlington?
  • FaceTime ______ (insert friend / family name here)
  • Email ______ (insert friend / family name here)
  • Set an alarm for every day at 3 pm called 'exercise' or 'have a snack' or 'take a nap'
  • Play today's PBS Newshour podcast
  • Show me pictures of Boston terriers from the web (or snowy owls or king penguins)
  • Show me pictures I took last weekend, or six months ago
  • Ask Siri to show you the planes that are flying above you right now. This would be a neat one to check back in on as air travel returns to see how the list grows.

To have some fun with Siri, ask these:
  • Tell me a joke
  • Tell me another joke
  • And another joke
  • How old are you?
  • Beatbox for me
  • What do you do for fun?

If you are new to Siri or are having a problem accessing it, it may just be your settings, post a comment below and I'll try to help.
