Lectures

Our lectures provide an overview of new technologies, targeted at those not 'born into' the digital age. The focus of these talks is on providing simple, non-technical definitions and explanations which allow the audience to walk away feeling empowered knowing broad concepts of our digital world.  No base of knowledge is assumed! These talks can be delivered as stand-alone lectures, or combined to create a unique lecture series.

KEEPING YOURSELF SAFE ONLINE
An important lecture for those who spend any time online. This will provide a solid base of knowledge of best practices to stay safe when using the internet. We will learn the red flags to watch out for to identify online scams and then explore simple, everyday things we can do (passwords; 2FA; privacy ++) to keep ourselves safe.

INTERNET SCAMS & FRAUD
In this essential talk we deconstruct current scam emails and texts, and understand how technology is fuelling a new generation of telephone scams. We then look at how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing the threat landscape. We wrap up by talking about simple things we can all do to stay vigilant and protect ourselves. Note that this lecture usually is booked as 'part 2' to the Keeping Yourself Safe Online talk.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (2-part lecture)
Artificial Intelligence (AI) seems to be the hottest topic of conversation these days! It has allowed for some astounding advances in various aspects of society, but despite this, there are so many unknowns that worries abound. In this 2-part series we learn what AI actually is; walk through its evolution and meet some of the main players in the AI race. Then we dig deeper into how the technology is being used and discuss the benefits and concerns. 
A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE INTERNET
So, what exactly is the Internet? How did it start, and where is it going? This informational lecture weaves through the story of the Internet starting from its modest beginnings, and gives an in-depth overview on this wonderful invention that today impacts almost every aspect of life.

AMAZON & THE ONLINE SHOPPING REVOLUTION

Amazon is an internet powerhouse that is not only changing the way we shop, but creeping into other aspects of daily life as well. In this lecture we explore this fascinating company; look at some competitors, and then cover practical tips for getting the most out of any online shopping experience.

HOW TO GOOGLE MORE EFFECTIVELY
Many of us 'Google' everyday, but are we getting the most out of this service? This lecture will delve deeper into the fascinating world of Google; look at some of the hidden features; and give practical tips on how to use this valuable tool more effectively.
